Vacancy: Research assistant and intern at CCB, KIAS
Kathmandu Institute of Applied Sciences (KIAS) is a not-for-profit, non-governmental and autonomous research organization based in Nepal established by a group of Nepali scientists with proven excellence in basic and applied research. Center for Conservation Biology (CCB), one of the three research centers of KIAS, is carrying out several research projects on endangered species, habitat restoration and conservation education. CCB at KIAS seeks application from competent, committed and result-oriented individuals to work with a group of internationally recognized experts.

A: Research Assistant
Research Assistant (RA) is an ideal position for early career researcher and plays important role in CCB team. The individual will be a part of the restoration research project. The project will include assessment of restoration potential of selective plant species and other key habitat requirements. A primary deliverable of the project will be restoration of degraded habitat based on research findings and engagement of local communities in the conservation program.
An ideal candidate should be highly motivated in both scientific research and conservation outreach. A working knowledge in GIS, spatial data analysis and R is required. Furthermore, candidate should be willing to visit remote areas frequently.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Identifying, reviewing and synthesizing academic literature
- Assist in project planning and execution
- Communicate with field staff and community members
- Compile, process and manage dataset from field.
- Write project progress report.
- Visit field and represent the organization at local meetings and events
- Other miscellaneous tasks as assigned by supervisor/team leader.
Key Requirements:
Education: At least a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field, zoology, botany, environmental sciences.
Experience: 0-1 years. Typical previous experience includes research internship while in college or internships with similar organizations or academic institutions.
Desirable Skills: Knowledge of conservation ecology, ability to conduct literature search, draft literature review and report, knowledge in python program language is preferred, but not mandatory.
Location: Kathmandu, Nepal (with frequent field visit)
Start date: October 2020
Salary: According to KIAS rules
Deadline: October 19, 2020
Duration: One year with possibility of extension upon satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

B: Research Intern
Research Intern (RI) is an ideal position for a fresh university graduate who wants to strengthen his/her research career. This is a full-time research trainee position upto six months.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Reviewing and synthesizing academic literature
- Data computation and curation
- Other miscellaneous tasks as assigned by supervisor/team leader.
Key Requirements:
Education: At least a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field, zoology, botany, environmental sciences.
Experience: This position does not require a prior experience.
Desirable Skills: Ability to conduct literature search, and write review report, ability to deadline.
Location: Kathmandu, Nepal (9AM-5PM is must). There is a possibility of work from home for a certain period.
Start date: October 2020
Salary: According to KIAS rules
Deadline: October 19, 2020
Duration: Six months
