Center for Analytical Sciences of Kathmandu Institute of Applied Sciences (KIAS) hosted a workshop entitled “Estimation of iodine in salt using saltPAD” on February 17th, 2018 at KIAS office, Kathmandu, Nepal.

Participants of the workshop

Researchers from Center for Analytical Sciences at Kathmandu Institute of Applied Sciences (KIAS) presented their research findings in the second International Conference on Bioscience and Biotechnology (ICBB). The conference was held from February 17th to 20th, 2018 at Dhulikhel, Nepal. The conference was jointly organized by Research Institute for Bioscience and Biotechnology (RIBB), Lalitpur, Nepal and Institute of Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM), Helsinki, Finland. This time with the theme of ‘Avenues for translational biomedicine research in Nepal’ the conference was a gathering of more than hundred participants including scientists and researchers from Nepal and other countries around the globe. KIAS was also the supporting partner of the conference.

The saltPADs were developed by Prof. Marya Lieberman’s research group at University of Notre Dame, IN, USA and  were kindly provided to KIAS. The saltPAD contains reagents required for iodometric titration of salt samples on paper. Dr. Basant Giri, scientist at Center for Analytical Sciences, KIAS said that involving students in such science activity may encourage them to come to science. Dr. Giri’s research group focuses on developing paper-based analytical devices for biological, chemical, and environmental applications.
